Hmmm. Ælfheah, ælf + heah; that's elf + high (or something metaphorically similar like 'important')? High Elf?

(I suppose it's not too surprising; Alfred, originally Ælfræd, is ælf + ræd; elf + rede or elf council)

Be vigilant about what is being taught to your daughter, at whatever age, and in whatever place. The secular establishment is pushing gender theory on children as young as first grade, as well as other assaults on the family and Christianity. Jesus said that anyone who caused any of the children to sin would be better off if a millstone were tied to his neck and he were thrown into the sea. At that rate, we will need a lot of millstones.

Ooh, Catholic Montessori! What a blessing to have available. I think you and your wife will really like it when the baby's place comes up. I find the idea of Montessori homeschool rather intimidating (do you really need all the special toys?) so we do Charlotte Mason. Below 6yo or so, it's really just Bible stories, Mother Goose, and running wild outside - we can handle that.

Kids are funny, though. You make all these plans for their education and they come out with very different ideas. As the ones with the authority, of course the parents are the decision makers, but a resistant child can throw a surprisingly heavy wrench into the works. I'm not sure yet how to adapt to that prospect when it comes. We are all on journeys together, I guess...

I'd like to offer a suggestion to broaden your appeal. You often use words (propaedeutic triggered my note) which the average Catholic doesn't understand (specially me). Yes, I have and use The Google-but why not add an explanation immediately after the word to enhance your appeal and reqadability? I have my own set of wisdom from my work (did you know there are theoretical plates in science?)but when I testified in court (think Forensic Science) I had to help the average juror understand and accept. I think more people would enjoy your wonderful work if you made it more easily comprehensible.

I teach English as a Second Language and naturally I'm wondering if ESL classes could be part of the prop year for seminarians who need to maintain student visas.

So happy to hear about priestly formation. This is much needed in some dioceses. It will be interesting to see if it is implemented. It would be wonderful if these young men for the most part would be involved in the synodal process.
