The episcopal misconduct of Archbishop Gregory has been flagged to Church officials for more than two decades. So successful has he been at portraying these complaints as racist and/or homophobic attacks on his personal integrity that it has become the de rigeur "go-to" for priests "of colour" everywhere. Ed., I think your assessment of the Afghanistan debacle is spot on. Additionally, there is a lot of partisan blaming going on. It’s Biden’s fault. It’s Trump’s fault. Everyone is slinging blame everywhere. But how can we have had the hubris to think we could build a new and improved Afghanistan when the good old USA is in such dire straits? We learned nothing from Vietnam and Korea. Maybe, just maybe, we will start to build up our own nation before we stick our noses in where they’re not wanted. But I won’t hold my breath.

About the potentially great synodal synod on synodality: Mr Flynn’s suggestion of “drinks on the house” is a sound one, but I believe misplaced. Regarding the Afghanistan situation I do agree with Fr Scott Bailey's comments although while the hope of establishing a decent, robust society might have failed, the success story was in containing the radicals so world could heal from 9/11. There's no doubt in my mind that if the US had not stepped in swiftly to do something, the radicals would have been emboldened to invade the globe. Here in Australia even today, there are locals being radicalised via the internet and seriously plotting diabolic violence. We have to focus on the good that the US and the allies facilitated by their presence in Afghanistan for 20 years that has set us up for swift local action wherever radicalism raises its ugly head.
