Please don't scoff at the people promoting ivermectin. Instead, read the scientific data and be impressed. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8088823/

I am a pharmacist married to a physician researcher. Ivermectin has been used for decades to treat parasites in people. It has a good safety profile and is inexpensive. Like many medications, it also has a veterinary use - as does penicillin and a host of other medications. I attend a devout and faithful Novus Ordo parish and much enjoy Bishop Barron - just if that places me in a particular "group'. Anyway, there are many studies showing the effectiveness of both Ivermectin and also hydroxychloroquine. Here is just one. https://journals.lww.com/americantherapeutics/fulltext/2021/08000/ivermectin_for_prevention_and_treatment_of.7.aspx

Going back to this week’s podcast: thanks so much for sharing the news about the propaedeutic year being offered or proposed at seminaries. I can’t tell you how much hope it gives me to see these steps being taken to help form and support our young priests.

I have been thinking a bit lately about the difficult position of priests in our current culture (I can recommend a Clerically Speaking podcast episode about chastity and the Pillar report about Msgr. Burrill as great food for thought) and it feels like we need thoughtful but bold new ideas for providing the human support our priests need. Our parish is run by a great young order, (Pro Ecclesia Sancta - check them out!) so our priests get the benefit of living with their religious brothers, but I know many priests are just kind of on their own. I’ve even wondered if it would make sense for parish priests to live with a lay family of the parish if there weren’t a way to live with other priests… I don’t know. Anyway, I’m glad there are some programs like the propaedeutic year being implemented to try to make strides in the right direction!

Thanks for the beautiful pictures of holidays - I would fall for that shameless subscription plug every time if I weren’t already a paying member!

"James Joyce wrote famously that “Catholic” means “Here comes everybody,” and, remarkable as it is that Joyce said something with brevity, he was right." James Joyce never wrote that. I've read everything that Joyce ever wrote including "Finnegans Wake" where the phrase originates and he doesn't remotely connect it with the Catholic Church. The HCE motif has more to do with the recirculation of history. Joyce insisted that he not be given a Catholic burial. I don't think that you'll find a primary source for this quote although I run into people using it all of the time.

As a priest and an adult victim of clerical sexual assault living in Massachusetts I’m not looking forward to McCarrick’s trial. Since his arraignment was first announced a couple of months ago I’ve noticed my mental health declining. I’m more anxious and I’m showing symptoms of depression and PTSD. I’ve been think a lot about death and the end it will bring to all this. Frankly, I’m scared. And I’m not the only one.

I’m sharing this to increase awareness of what sexual assault/abuse victims are suffering and to ask for understanding and prayers for all of us.
