The victim's statement shows that there were many people involved who should have known better. One of the biggest problems with the current "deliverance ministry" and the secretive attitude toward exorcisms is that people do not know what a real exorcism looks like. In a real exorcism, no one is ever held down! Never! If someone asks you to come over and hold down a person so that they can be exorcised, call the police.
And who approved these "exorcisms," and on what representations, and who else was involved? If Morrier doesn't hand over the names, haul him back into court.
I had never heard of "deliverance ministry" until reading this article. Seems like a crazy Prot thing, not something I would associate with Catholicism. Am I out to lunch?
The Church became cautious of exorcism due to the Modernist movement, so exorcisms began to be done secretly when approved at all. This was bad because it made exorcism seem like some dark magic where anything might be allowed. Actually it is a series of prayers, best done in daylight and in as boring a manner as possible, but the pride of various exorcists led to them describing their jobs as cooler than they are.
This then led to more and more people wanting exorcisms, but the Church, influenced by Modernism, wanted exorcisms to be very rare or non-existent. So some priests and lay people, attracted by the idea of fighting a spiritual battle decided to start doing exorcisms without Church approval. They called this "deliverance ministry".
Deliverence ministry is badly done exorcisms by people with neither the authority nor the knowledge required to actually do them. Then, the spiritual pride took hold in the deliverence ministers. They wanted to be doing something cooler than boring prayers prayed in the daylight. So deliverence ministry came to mean whatever weird nonsense the charismatic leader claimed was a good idea.
Many people look to deliverence ministry for a more traditional understanding of why they keep returning to sin despite frequent Confessions. They are attracted to the idea that there is some trick to holiness rather than "Deny Yourself, Take up your Cross, and Follow Me." It is reminiscent of the story of Naaman and Elisha, where Naaman says, "Surely I thought he would come and wave his hand over the spot and say some words."
But people are playing with spiritual forces they do not understand. Thus there is a great deal of sexual abuse and greed and pride tied up with those who claim to be able to do deliverence ministry. And the more they sin, the more they say that they are being attacked by demons for their great work. And like all Satan's lies, they are half-right.
In my opinion, every person who failed this woman should be booted out of the Catholic Church. I am a faithful Catholic and despise these bums who continue to give my church a bad name.
First, may God bless and heal this young woman and give
her absolute assurance that He loves her more than she
can possibly imagine. Her courage is astounding and
her story will likely help other victims who may become ensnared in such horrific forms of spiritual/emotional/mental and physical abuse.
Second, I thank the Pillar for bringing this tragedy to light, and also hope by their doing so, others may be more alert to these kinds of abuses, thus preventing others from experiencing the same.
Third, what will happen to all of the accomplices: those who participated directly in the abuse with Morrier, and those who apparently knew but who did nothing?
Fourth, I agree with the Pillar, Morrier’s sentence does not come anywhere close to fitting the crimes he committed. May God give him life-giving repentance and the healing he needs. I hope and pray there were no other victims. Jesus, have mercy on us all.
Yes what about the accomplices . Morrier needs to be pressured to name names. Sadly there was “Satanic Ritual Abuse “ - by Morrier and his accomplices in those abusive exorcisms
This is really disheartening. I had an image of Franciscan University of Steubenville as being a bastion of teaching from the Catholic magisterium and being free from all the filth of contemporary culture. I guess I was wrong.
This author is too quick to judge the university and to assume he would have taken action the first time he heard this story. New policies to ensure this does not happen again is the correct response. Just the facts please.
“Heart-wrenching/chilling/most powerful victim impact statement” to say the least.

Morrier it seems was posessed by the demonic. Shame on Steubenville University.
That litany that the victim wrote which was their response to her pleas is shocking.
Men of God? Men of the devil it seems.
