So, Pope Francis made a catty comment about the Synodal Path. Bätzing made a catty comment about Francis. Meanwhile, Bätzing is moving full speed ahead with the Synodal Way with things scheduled to significantly escalate in less than a year. Pope Francis’s main intervention in this process so far has been to write a letter that was essentially ignored.
Bätzing is connecting with the leaders of the Synod on Synodality, who have already made clear their ambition to reconsider and revise ostensibly unchangeable teachings of the Church. If they’re watching the Bätzing situation, I doubt they have seen anything “horribilis” enough to dissuade them from trying it out and seeing what happens.
With all due respect, nothing that is happening in Germany makes me support an expansion of the German branch of the Church expanding its influence worldwide. By their fruits you shall know them...
