what other parenting styles are there?

Thank you Matthew Wilson for this post. It seems like common sense that being a devote Catholic you would have a better chance at passing on the faith to your children. We have 7 kids and the oldest is a religious sister but we work with fear and trembling for the salvation of each child. That being said, I think that one of the keys has been to have fun with our kids and laugh. They want to sit at the table and listen to us if we laugh and love each other. The joys of being a large family have sustained us through the tough times and by the grace of God kept us loving Christ and His Church. Jesus, Mary and Joseph pray for us and all our children to become SAINTS!

This seems like it should be a simple cause-effect area of study, but consider:

1) Catholics believe that persons are inclined toward the supernatural (ie God).

2) Catholics believe that parents have a grave primary duty to teach their children about the faith.

3) Catholics believe that children have an obligation of love, honor, and obey their parents.

4) Catholics believe in the ultimate free will of the person. That is, a person is free to reject God.

And that's even before we get to the current materialist/relativist/atheist general culture and its ill effects.

Perhaps it is a minor miracle that faith in God even persists today. In any event, it does, so it is fitting here to reference:

Praise be to Him!
