This story makes me admire Bishop Brungardt all the more. He removed himself from ministry for a year when facing a false accusation. It showed real pastoral concern for his people rather than this attitude of selfish arrogance.

Dealing with an intransigent bishop seems to be occurring more frequently. If priests do not get a response from the Nuncio and higher ups what recourse do folks like us have in repeatedly writing and begging for change? Time to change the rules these “ princes of the church” operate under. The sheep smell a lot better than some.

This is just so sad. For the priests and the faithful in the diocese. If we are not a democratic church, but one that gives so much to those in charge, we should expect those in charge to do their duty. I am sure the Vatican is overwhelmed with work, but when a collection of priests write in, that seems like a matter that should be addressed quickly. I'm sure many dioceses around the country would willingly take an influx of priests--we all need more priests. Make the diocese go into emergency mode, maybe the Vatican would listen then!

I pray that Bishop Stika will act on a wisdom borne of humility. I pray that our priests remain courageous in their faith and not fear the wrath of the unjust. And I pray for all the faithful that we not lose heart. We may have a flawed earthly shepherd but the Good Shepherd will never leave us!
