Thank you for this podcast. I cannot find the words to describe how my appreciation of the truth of Jesus and the beauty of the mind of God has deepened as a result of this production. I am so grateful.
If they're surrounded by soldiers, outnumbered 10 to 1, it seems that when Peter takes up the sword, he's living out exactly what he said at the Last Supper - "I'm willing to die with you." He might be thinking, "This is it. Now or never. One last hurrah, either we win or we die."
Imagine his confusion when Jesus orders him to stand down, and willingly goes into custody. His world is turned to violently upside down, I don't think we can comprehend it. I mean, just imagine what's happening on an emotional and physical level - the adrenaline is going, he's willing to die, and he almost wants to, to die for the Lord in battle. But then this Lord just... gives up? Surrenders? Imagine the adrenaline crash, the profound confusion, all of it - it's almost no wonder that he denies Jesus. He's probably wondering if he even knows who Jesus is.
