Boy… you know you’ve screwed your country over when the pope declares ONE slum it’s own diocese. Thank God for fearless Jesuits like Fr Alfredo.

Technically, the diocese covers a whole municipality (called Sucre) of which over half of the population lives in Petare. But the name of the diocese is Petare, not Sucre.

Thanks for that correction. Still not a socio-economic statistic to be proud of, especially if most of the growth has been driven by the population growth of Petare.

Yeah, I'd say most of the pastoral activity and particularly social activities of the diocese are in Petare. I say "half" based on official statistics but it's probably closer to 2/3rds. Petare is immense. A city within a city (Sucre) within a city (Caracas).
