As I hope in the Lord's mercy for me, may God have mercy on him. If there is a takeaway from this, I hope that the Holy Father will learn to not be so credulous when it comes to his closest associates.

A bit passive on the voice there in the description, no? He clearly could have cooperated if he wanted to. He chose not to.

I remain convinced that only the resignation of the entire Magisterium can heal the inner rot of our beloved Church. Benedict was intellectually aware that he was making things worse and had the decency to resign. (I doubt he had the MORAL capacity to understand the gravity of the damage he and JPII did)

If a person is accused of a serious crime and that crime is the subject of a canonical investigation it seems extraordinary to me that the Pope should call him in to discuss the matter thus interfering with the administration of justice. It seems though that the Pope and many in the Vatican have not the slightest idea of how to behave and could not care less anyway.

The way Pope Francis has given this man cover ruins any credibility that Francis had. Not that I had give him much credit before reading this.
