Amen to that, that and the stories about the good that is going on as well from on the ground folks in the Church all around the world are the main reasons why I’m a Pillar subscriber, plus the way the way the humanity of both Ed and JD and their enigmatic senses of humor come out in their weekly e-mails. I think both the media and the Church need more of that, and I hope The Pillar sends ripples across both.
I totally concur! Even more amazing is that Ed & JD and their minimal staff truly cover the global Catholic Church in a way that challenges much larger Catholic "news" publications for both breadth and depth. You are truly the little engine that could but if we are to keep this training running and growing, we need all readers who are not yet subscribers to jump on board and start shoveling some coal into the engine! They can't do it without us and we can't stay informed without them. They are doing God's work and we need to support them!
I think the women (awesomely) took rugby bronze, not gold. Gold would be front page news even more than bronze over the Australians is. (I almost said brass because of today’s Mass reading.)
ETA: I see Cody beat me to it; sorry to pile up on Mr Condon!
Say what you like about reporting the news we don't want to hear. The truth is what we are called to live, that is the gospel message. When one looks the other way out of loyalty, you have missed the point of the gospel. It doesn't mean we are called to put others down, but we are called to be truthful.
Thanks for all the reporting, not just the “rah! rah! team go!” That IS why I subscribe to The Pillar since I can’t get this reporting elsewhere. Your reporting is credible.
> But the implication of the feedback is that covering the news is an “us versus them” endeavor.
We (but for clarity, I will start over and say "I") - *I* ought generally to take my emotional state following a surprising news story to prayer, because it will generally reveal to me something I could ask God to heal in me. I grow attached to some people and repelled by other people and when I hear good or bad of the former, I herald it as something to be proud of, myself, as though I had any part in it, or I resist it as a wound to my own vanity, as though I had any part in it. When I hear good or bad of the latter, whom in my heart I have already condemned, I say "it's too good to be true; in any case this alone will not save them" and reflect on the ledger sheet that I keep unforgiven in my head, or I say "it just goes to show you - that kind is no good". Even to say "there, but for the grace of God, go I" could be (come, lets be honest: it invariably is, when I say it) freighted with overtones of "I am better than he; thank you, God, for making me better than he is."
Alright but they don’t have a python-hunting competition. And this is the team that counts for you and JD—team hunter or team vs alligator. flpythonchallenge.org

Quibble. Please resist the temptation to copy the crowd by resorting to the use of "incredible" and "incredibly" to mean what they don't mean.
I look forward to reading the Pillar. I trust you guys and am very glad you don’t look away to protect the offending party. What’s in the light becomes light. What’s in the dark only gets darker and that had been the problem for decades. Thank you.
I liked the final "That's Entertainment"
Thanks for The Jam video. Reminds me of growing up in London and ten years of adulthood in Camden Town. You can take the boy out of London but.....
Thanks for “telling it like it is”. That is one reason why I subscribe to the Pillar.
Same here!

Thank you again Ed.
If you want transparency, synodality-esque communication, and truth, subscribe to The Pillar.
US Women’s Rugby sevens won bronze not gold.

Well, you do at least have something to do with the Pillar, as a subscriber and commenter. And hopefully their work is doing some good.

I couldn't be prouder to be a pillar subscriber and reader (in a good way--obviously). Thanks for taking your work seriously and faithfully.
As for teams, I'm glad The Pillar strives for "Team Truth."
