Interesting how half of the Church sees this a demotion and the other half of the Church sees this as a promotion.

The average educated Pillar enjoyer take: the Holy See is desperate for bishops and multi-auxiliary sees now seem decadent in a missionary territory country.

I am very excited to have Bishop Barron as my new bishop! This is a great blessing for my diocese!

This is the diocese I grew up in (Pax Christi parish in Rochester, MN), and I still live close by in the St. Paul/Minneapolis diocese. Excited to have another celebrity nearby, along with Father Mike Schmitz in Duluth!

In terms of “promotion” or “demotion” I view this as a promotion for the Church and a demotion for a career ecclesial bureaucrat. While I don’t believe Bishop Barron is the latter, I think this is good.

This could be a demotion or a promotion, or neither! I hope it is a sign that not every bishop hopes for an ever-bigger, ever more "important" assignment, but that being shepherd of a diocese is always an honor and responsibility worthy of someone steady, faithful, and ready to serve.

It seems odd that the former Archbishop nuncio to Taiwan is now an auxiliary bishop to Detroit if there are problems finding priests willing to be bishops https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/amp/news/251329/detroits-new-auxiliary-bishop-is-an-archbishop-and-veteran-vatican-diplomat
