I wonder why the Archbishop did not want to participate in the synod. Perhaps he thought it would all get out of control, but if he has been bishop there for decades and has not won over anyone, perhaps the problem is with him. If his vision for the Church is correct, I would expect some progress in evangelization. He sounds like a Cardinal Law or Archbishop Neinstedt figure who is coasting on conservative credentials. That statement about contacting the chancery is especially bad. He should know his flock personally by now.
