Anyone else finding it ironic that on the two top-of-mind moral issues (abortion and vaccine mandates) in the US currently that pit the Church against the prevailing federal government power (Democrats), both sides on both issues employ arguments mainly based on freedom and conscience? Maybe this state of affairs captures well the crisis of faith among US Catholics. I'm praying that the US bishops have roughly the same take and recognize how important their unified guidance is for us at this moment, particularly on the topics of freedom and conscience. The Church must be vocal and evangelical/educational on these two fronts.
