Of course, slavery of fellow human beings is a grave evil.

But I too would object and criticize the UN and leftists who focus and mention only European enslavement of Africans....it is clearly part of a repeated effort to criticize the foundations of western civilization & European heritage (including the Catholic Church) as a "great evil" & negative stain on world history.

Maybe the most infuriating part of this is that they NEVER mention Africans' own role in capturing and selling their enemies or neighboring tribesmen....there also is never a mention or criticism of 1,500+ years of slavery in Muslim countries (including still to this very day) or Chinese communist enslavement of ethnic and religious minorities currently.

European Christians were the first culture to recognize the evil, condemn it, and systematically end slavery & the slave trade too....

I always wonder if "perpetuam servitutem" in Dum Diversas is correctly translated as "perpetual slavery" - in the Latin, it might just as well mean "perpetual servitude", which may well be the normal relation between a conquered nation and a conquerer king.

I'd be happy to defer to experts here, but I fear they all come with an agenda.
