I recall the fake controversy about Cardinal Pell's nonexistent cappa magna. Although I've never seen one used in an actual liturgy, my understanding is it may not enter the sanctuary, so the cardinal must take it off in order to enter, to remind him that *sic transit gloria mundi.* Seems like that is the mindset that is egregiously missing among those that Cardinal Pell was trying to oversee.
