Thanks for laying out what constitutes formal heresy. The word is guilty of being overused to the point of losing its meaning. However, we shouldn't be afraid to call this what it is: grave scandal.

To my knowledge, the Catholic Church has never approved sodomy or other homosexual acts. Marx can't overturn 2000 years of Christian teaching, nor can he simply jettison basic Biblical teachings that are even more ancient. On the other hand, whose duty is it to formally correct a Cardinal of the Catholic Church? The Bishop of Rome, obviously. But I'm not holding my breath. Going all back to the "who am I to judge?" comment, it's been pretty obvious that this pontificate has opted to "stand down" in the culture war over the issue of homosexuality. Ultimately, though, they can't square the circle. The proper use of human sexuality is either ordered for procreation and family or it's not. I don't know how the Church doesn't end up in schism if Marx's view prevails. Many will ask ourselves if we can remain in a Catholic Church that abandons two millennia of teaching on human sexuality.
