I'm so tired of this.

I was all for Francis when he was first elected, but I miss JPII and Benedict, the power of their conviction, and their deep courage and love for the faith and the truth.

I just hope that there are enough cardinals sitting around right now thinking quietly to themselves "We need to end this s***show."

If not out of love for the faith, shouldn't they out of self-preservation? Is the complete collapse of the Protestant state churches in Europe invisible to Rome? How has same-sex blessings and women priests worked out for the Anglican Church and Scandinavian Lutheranism? How many patients are showing up to those "field hospitals?"

Are there really members of the hierarchy who think that alienating their most enthusiastic, orthodox faithful to play catch up with the Sexual Revolution is going to work differently for the Catholic Church than it has for literally every other liberalized Christian body on the planet? Anglicanism is effectively in schism over sex and gender - are women priests and gay blessings really worth splitting the Church in two, only to have the European churches die out even *faster* as all the most faithful members pick up their marbles and go to schismatic traditionalism and Eastern Orthodoxy?

And speaking of Orthodoxy, how does all this mealy mouthing on major moral questions affect ecumenism? Shouldn't Rome's ecumenical priorities be Orthodoxy and the vast majority of global Anglicans who are disenchanted with Canterbury? Is there really anyone who thinks that rainbow flags and womenpriests are going to bring back enough Germans and Canadians to offset the millions it will alienate globally, not to mention close all ecumenical doors with the East?

Just from a purely self interested institutional standpoint, I just can't wrap my head around the logic behind any of this.

And what is the point of having the "conversation" if these questions are closed, anyway?

Governments are euthanizing people for depression and lack of health care access and are on the verge of forcing parents to hand their children over for sex change operations. Artificial wombs are on the horizon. We get closer every day to rationalizing infanticide under the umbrella of "Medical Assistance in Dying." Marriage and family life is in ruins in the West, with devastating consequences for women and children.

John Paul II and Benedict XVI knew what time it was. Does Francis?

I know the Holy Spirit will not let the Church fail, but if history is any guide he sure will let the Church flounder for a little while.

I just wish it didn't have to be during my lifetime.

These 5 Cardinals have an accurate read of much of the Faithful’s fears about this Synod. Whether it is a fear of direct doctrinal change (unlike), a fear of questioning of settled morals and sacramental practice (already affirmed by some Cardinals i.e. women priests), or even a fear of a “Spirit of the Synod on Synodality,” not unlike the “Spirit of Vatican II,” that haunts the Church for decades to come. These dubia address the Zeitgeist in the atmosphere of this Synod, and the Zeitgeist that possessed the Germans. Clarity, and the affirmation of basic Catholic morals, on these dubia would only establish much needed institutional trust, while ignoring them increases distrust.
