Congratulations Ed and Mrs Condon! I’m going to go out on a limp here and guess that Cecilia and Angelo have been firmly crossed off the list of potentials baby names?
I gather congratulations are in order: many blessings and graces for your family and new child.
But I haven't gotten beyond this, in the morning's email: the Roman Pontiff 'passed new legislation'. He does presumably suffer flatulence from time to time like the rest of us but he doesn't 'pass' laws; he is not a legislature, he is a sovereign. Impose, create, make, establish -- there are accurate alternative verbs available. Please use them.
I only today discovered these 'Community' pages; will give you fair warning that I have had occasions in the past to criticize similar errors and infelicities in Pillar essays (Mr Flynn is certainly as guilty as you are) and human beings being what they are I expect more such lamentable occasions in future. Do better than the NY Times and Guardian et al in what concerns Holy Church.
Congratulations Ed to you and your wife! One small correction - "learning that I am to be a father" - for those of us that believe your unborn child is exactly that, an unborn child, then it's more proper to say that you ARE a father. Right now. Today.
In re the item on catechist formation: you may be aware of the efforts of Notre Dame's McGrath Institute for Church Life and its director John Cavadini, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention it as one (and for my money, hopeful) avenue for catechetical formation and one that is specifically aware of avoiding clericalization of a professional laity. See, for instance, Cavadini's writings such as this one ( https://churchlifejournal.nd.edu/articles/co-responsibility-is-the-remedy-for-lay-clericalism ) and MICL's Echo Program (of which I am an alum) is perhaps the clearest example of their efforts in this regard ( https://mcgrath.nd.edu/service-learning/echo-graduate-service-program/ )
Congratulations to you and Mrs. Condon! May the Lord bless you all abundantly.
Congratulations! Wonderful news.
