Of course bad liturgies can be an impediment to the Holy Spirit. Or maybe it's better to say bad liturgies can be an impediment to people receiving the graces offered by the Holy Spirit. It's odd to suggest otherwise.
Does that invalidate all the good things that happen at WYD? No, and very few people suggest that it does. But the fact that these types of events are often accompanied by bad liturgies and yet good things still tend to happen isn't in any way a defense of those bad liturgies.
Nor was that what I was trying to say...To some extent, I was thinking through these things out loud, so I'm sure I didn't speak about the especially precisely. :-)
As one who has been many WYDs, I can attest to plenty of bad behavior and impurity. Not all young people are edified by some of the Liturgies or the acts of some who attend.
Not every one who attends WYD are there to grow closer to the Lord or the Church.
Have heard similar reports elsewhere. Also, here in Sydney we had something of a problem with young people “overstaying their visa” and disappearing into the woodwork.
I just like how Ed, insisting that he's a natural fit in this rural community and has a camo hat to prove it, casually describes camo-wear as "de rigeur".
Identical to Ed's save for a Pillar logo on back and the option to have it signed on the underside of the brim by the Grump himself for additional $20.
I would gladly pay $50 for such an autographed hat to wear daily.

I know that many vocations come from WYD

I grew up in Western PA. That bar story is the most Western PA thing I've heard in a long time.
In smaller communities, having the right enemies can be a valuable thing.
You could totally sell Ed’s hat as merch!
Jael crushed a guy’s head with a spike.
Judith cut a guy’s head off.
I think you mixed up your J-lettered women who kill some dudes via head trauma. Both cool stories.

Please sell us "Cynical Grump" hats!
