I am not much into pop Christmas songs. However, a few years ago the country pop singer Kacey Musgraves had a Christmas special on which she put some original songs. "Glittery," "Ribbons and Bows," and "Christmas Makes Me Cry" are pretty good 👍 better than Wham anyway
So first of all, it shows that Ed didn’t spend his formative years in America that he doesn’t know who Weezer is. Wheatus?? Gross. However, forgiving that, I am fully in agreement with Ed’s estimation of Taylor Swift. I think almost any influence she supposedly has could be simply boiled down to saying she is the biggest pop celebrity in the world, which always brings with it cultural influence, nothing unique to her as an individual. (Also, I’m turning 40 this month and I think it’s a nice benefit of getting older not to feel any compunction to care about current pop culture. Unapologetic love for all things 90s, early 00s, all the way baby.)
Every time I hear "the bishop of Strickland" [sic], I wonder "is this deliberate or accidental". The case for accidental is that it flows more trippingly on the tongue, being quasi-dactylic, and of course sounds like it ought to be a place-name.
Higgledy-piggledy,
Bishops of Strickland were
Never so strict as the

Summas of YouTubes and

saved for his Cause,
show the thoughts of his mind.

Respectfully disagree with Ed's verdict on Slade''s "Merry Xmas Everybody", but couldn't agree more on the Lennon song. It really says something about Lennon that it isn't even his worst song.
I think you are right, Ed, with regards to Taylor Swift, but I Times magazine picked her well. Had they made a more reasonable choice, people would have just nodded and moved on; but because it is so ludicrous it's news. Just think about how often you have talked about the Times person of the year on the podcast before.

Fantastic episode as always. Ed, your spot on with Taylor Swift. I recognize her popularity, but I don't get it.
I will say you missed what is objectively the worst Christmas song ever: "The Christmas Shoes."
Hilarious! "The diminished organ of Time Magazine hitching its star to Taylor Swift..."
Love Dominic the Donkey!

Wonder if Ed has listened to the Killers Christmas work...
Does Ed know that no doubt has a Christmas song called oi to the world? If not he needs to.
Shoot, I commented before I finished the episode 🤦
