Having read and listened to the commentary on the Reilly affair, I am left with this question:
if the paper from the independent commission (showing the specific recommendations that Reilly not occupy any position of authority due to, at best, negligence) is real, then why not follow its recommendations now?
I think there’s one (very cynical, but still possible) option that wasn’t mentioned with respect to Seton Hall: they were never going to follow the recommendations in the first place, so they didn’t expect any follow up. The investigation itself was all they thought necessary to address the situation. So then it was a mistake for the chairman of the committee (iirc) to hold onto the letters he drafted. I am very, very curious as to why he hasn’t spoken up yet to clear up his role at least; but if my theory is correct, admitting the truth could put him in a very tough spot.
