I still wouldn't write off the possibility that some diocese takes him in. He still seems to have his defenders, and if he is aggressive enough about finding a new home, I could see Fr. Rupnik persuading some clueless or naive bishop to give him another chance. If the alleged abuse had involved minors, I would have said no chance. But since none of the cases do, and he was never actually convicted of anything related to them...who knows. Hopefully I'm wrong about this and I'm just making crazy speculations.
Maybe an avenue through this is for some bishop to volunteer to accept Rupnik into his diocese, then never give him faculties or an assignment. Just a desk in some back room of the chancery where he's given nothing to do.
How many abusive priests has the Society actually sought laicization for versus suspending them indefinatly from public ministry or expelling from the order?
This entire situation reminds me of the saying it’s not what you know but who you know!
It further infuriates me the this man still has faculties while our Pastor hangs in limbo for FIVE years waiting for Rome to decide on a complaint NOT SEXUAL ABUSE. Our newly appointed bishop seems more interested in cya rather than restoring a good priest. I come to that conclusion after making several attempts to inform him of the facts. Jesus and His teachings and how HE handled many of these situations seem to be foreign to so many who seemingly represent Him here on earth. Someone told me there is no politics in the church.REALLY??
Yikes.
This is a great explainer, as usual.

Given the disobedience, I don't think any bishop would incardinate him.
I never thought I'd see a more spineless "punishment" than laicization, but here we are
The Jesuits are so vain they probably think being kicked out of the Society is a bigger punishment than being kicked out of the priesthood.
A pretty broad brush Aiden

In other words, managed obsolescence.
Or, some enterprising bishop could offer to incardinate him and then turn around and proceed with laicization. Only in my daydreams…
I suspect he would prefer not to be incardinated and avoid the obedience problem.
Do any of the sisters he assaulted have standing to pursue legal action?
Time to (re)suppress the Jesuits! jk
