Ten thumbs up, Bernie. I refer to my comment below on ex-Father Michael Hull, ex-executive director of the Sheen Center. Plus his various nefarious colleagues in NY archdiocese circa 2015. It is plain that NY Archdiocese has been a perverse laughing stock for years.
Can you imagine anyone trying similar stunts in a mosque or Islamic cultural centre? Unless the perpetrator had a burning desire to spend the rest of his life down a cave somewhere near the South Pole.
If you think this is wild.....check out my comment below on ex-Father Michael Hull, ex-executive director of the Sheen Center. One of the links inside my comment points to some of the other characters in New York Archdiocese around 2015. It is like multiple overlapping scenes from Alice in Wonderland - assuming that you were reading Lewis Carroll on acid plus lots of magic mushrooms.
"The group that was trying to rent the space did not disclose the nature of the event when doing so"
As with the funeral, are they really not asking basic questions? Or are they getting lied to? Or are they hearing honest answers and plowing ahead anyway?
If someone called you wanting to book a space for an improv class, what do you think of? SNL type skits, or… whatever this is? I would assume it’s the SNL kind and not the apparent *other kind* that I lack the imagination for now have to try and erase from my brain.
My suspicion is that it’s a little bit “all of the above.”
I can only imagine that there are priests / religious / lay staff out there - of the sort who are featured giving same-sex “couple but not union” blessings in the tweets of the NYT - who actively encourage these types of people to seek out Catholic venues with the full endorsement of what they’re doing, and then coach them on how to submit their requests.
And then some well-meaning peon staff person who fields these types of requests says to a higher up, “Hmm, this says it’s ‘a welcoming and affirming couples’ intimacy workshop for all genders,’ should I decline the rental?”
And the more senior person replies, “Well, it’s probably not exactly a Catholic kind of thing, but we’d hate to make anyone feel unwelcome,” probably either out of a sense of solidarity with the cause, or out of a fear of backlash if they are seen to be disapproving.
So everyone plows ahead from a framework of “plausible deniability,” which has probably been going on for years and years and we’re only now hearing about it because of news sources like The Pillar (subscribe, people!), as well as the fact that the activist crowd feels entitled to behave ever more brazenly.
Perhaps the Archdiocese should start requiring more specifics from those wanting to use their facilities. They seem to have had a bad few weeks from failing to do so.
It’s entirely possible it’s a simple online form. Someone checks dates are available. Improv class? Sure why not! Improv is fun! Nothing wrong with improv…
Nek minute… EGADS WFT is this?? This wasn’t on the booking form! Dammit we forgot to put the little TnC tick box at the bottom that gives us the right to revoke the booking if it’s a misleading booking!
Now those Pillar people are sniffing around!
By the way, has someone reached out to the self-described “sex goddess shaman”? Not for comment but to tell her about Jesus?
I tried to tell everyone that something is rotten in New Amsterdam…it’s the Archdiocese. Just how long will people continue to insist that the Archdiocese continues having the wool pulled over its eyes when it’s plainly obvious that the phone call is coming from inside the house.
Looked down at my phone while my children were on speaker with my husband to find I had this article pulled up. Really hoping I don’t get questions and that nobody looked down. St. Michael, defend us.
I had to go to more trouble to rent a parish hall for my grandmother’s funeral than the degenerates in NYC have to go through to commit vile acts with Church property. Lord have mercy on us.
The Archdiocese of NY must surely know now that they are being watched very carefully by the faithful lay people of the Church (and by vigilant & honest media outlets such as The Pillar)....yet it seems like there must be some people working for the Archdiocese who are still trying to sneak this depraved, perverted, & sinful stuff into their churches and other Catholic properties and centers....sad that we all have had to become "watchdogs" of our own dioceses and local parishes to look out for this kind of stuff now
They're actively toying with Catholics. The fact that, out of all the many options for event venues in New York City, these groups continually go to churches and church-related organizations/venues to host these things, and that they often don't fully disclose their nature in detail, means that they are actively pursuing Catholic-affiliated places to embarrass us and humiliate us. They know that when a diocese gets in the news for having a parish event hall host a drag-stripper vogueing competition, everybody points and laughs at those "silly, backwards, prudish Catholics" now caught with sparkly rainbow spandex around their ankles.
It's malicious, and it's intentional. These people want to humiliate and embarrass us.
Has the Pillar tried to book Catholic spaces in NY yet? St Patricks, this place, etc. See just how easy it is to rent a place. This is so sad and disgusting.
As in the early days of the Latin Mass movement, it would be far less hassle booking your TLM group into a hotel conference suite or secular community hall than a Catholic church.

Thank you people of the Pillar!
You can't be serious.....Is this a story for the "Babylon Bee"?
Good lord, I hope they don’t try and one-up this one…
The Bee has a hard time keeping their satire ahead of reality.
There are simply no words to describe my sorrow that this is what we have been reduced to.
I think this is officially the wildest article you've written. Just the whole thing is just unhinged
And I don't mean the Pillar is unhinged mean the story
It's right up there with a priest using Grindr and a room full of pot in a convent in Texas.

"Well, that's the wildest sentence I've read in The Pillar"
*three sentences later*
"...I stand corrected."
"The group that was trying to rent the space did not disclose the nature of the event when doing so"
As with the funeral, are they really not asking basic questions? Or are they getting lied to? Or are they hearing honest answers and plowing ahead anyway?
Or do they suspect what it is and don't want to ask more questions? Plausible deniability....

The kinky people deliberately sought out a Catholic venue to make the event *even naughtier*!
When they booked the venue, they did not inform the Sheen Center what they really planned to do.
Perhaps the Archdiocese should start requiring more specifics from those wanting to use their facilities. They seem to have had a bad few weeks from failing to do so.

ROFL!
is it any wonder that the church is being laughed at and dismissed?
I tried to tell everyone that something is rotten in New Amsterdam…it’s the Archdiocese. Just how long will people continue to insist that the Archdiocese continues having the wool pulled over its eyes when it’s plainly obvious that the phone call is coming from inside the house.
Podcast may need a parental warning if this topic comes up🙄

Good work Pillar, bringing this to light.
People have enough sinful impulses on their own without the Archdiocese encouraging them.
The Archdiocese of NY must surely know now that they are being watched very carefully by the faithful lay people of the Church (and by vigilant & honest media outlets such as The Pillar)....yet it seems like there must be some people working for the Archdiocese who are still trying to sneak this depraved, perverted, & sinful stuff into their churches and other Catholic properties and centers....sad that we all have had to become "watchdogs" of our own dioceses and local parishes to look out for this kind of stuff now
It is sad that "being watched" should make a difference. Character is what you do, even when no one is watching.

It's diabolical.

Excellent idea!
Bonus points if you try to book the space to celebrate the TLM.
As in the early days of the Latin Mass movement, it would be far less hassle booking your TLM group into a hotel conference suite or secular community hall than a Catholic church.
Not to be a conspiracy lunatic….taking the church down from the inside is as old as time..
Can't wait for Dolan's "heroic" praise of the people who cancelled these awful events after being caught out...
If they actually have been canceled.
