Why would we think that the Apostles began Pentecost paralyzed by fear? They spent ten days exactly as they were meant to: devoting themselves to constant prayer.
The little essay about dear “Margaret” (which IS a nice name, indeed one of the best) is fabulous writing; keep that one to go in the anthology, Mr. Condon.
Old joke. Kid turns two, doesn’t speak. Parents worry. Kid turns three. Still doesn’t say a word. Parents take him to a doctor, find nothing wrong. Kid turns four. Still says nothing. Parents take him to specialists who can’t find anything wrong. Kid turns five. More specialists, more nothing.
One morning over breakfast, the kid looks up and says, “Oof. These pancakes are terrible.”
His mother bursts into tears of joy, hugs him, and when she finally regains self control, asks him, “Son, if you could talk, why didn’t you do so sooner?”
Thank you for acknowledging that there is a period of time where children and puppies are nie indistinguishable. I’m routinely shouted down for such opinions even if, like Mr. Darling, I acknowledge that children have souls.
May the Holy Spirit shine upon all of us with His everloving Presence so that we too may have the blessing of being beloved children of God always searching for the Father's love and affection made possible by the victory of Christ Jesus over the fruitless grasp of death made possible by His sacrifice and salvation for all who will believe and invite him under our roof; that we are not worthy but He only has to say the word and our souls are healed by the gifts of the Eucharist and other sacraments as well as the guiding light of the Holy Spirit who procedes from the Father and the Son and has spoken thru the ages even unto the present day and age if we just believe and open our hearts to God and our fellow humans. We're all in this journey called life, let us share the bounty of God's blessings with all who would have it 🙏 ✨️ Amen 🙏
Peace unto you Shalom and your loved ones this day of remembrance on Pentecost Sunday may the Holy Spirit Ruach HaKodesh shine upon all of us with God's everloving Presence in all we do and say and think, this we pray 🙏 in Jesus's name 🙏 Amen
“I want the Church to be holy. I want it to be the leading light on human dignity and accountability for its sins. I want it to model every kind of best practice when it comes to the protection of children. And if “unfair” levels of scrutiny can help us get there (and I think they have), so much the better.”
Very well said. The same the Christian is called to be *in* the world but not *of* the world, the same we can’t compare wrongdoings of the world with wrongdoings in the Church
Our daughter was not quite that unwilling to talk, but pretty close. A teacher suggested later that children with a certain temperament hate being seen making mistakes and want to wait until they have it just right before revealing their abilities. This has rung true in the years since with ours.
Rome is going to sit up and take notice of what’s going on deep *clap* *clap* *clap* in the heart of Texas.
Time for JD and Ed to dust off their cowboy hats and head down to Ft. Worth!
If you go, please be sure to visit Billy Bob’s (the self proclaimed World’s Largest Honkey Tonk), if only for the pictures.
I love the notion of a child so content, her wants so fulfilled, that she need not complain except about a doctor visit. :)
heed? or is "head" a variant? I guess heedless and headless might share an etymology?

"It is a feast I hold dear every year. And as I think about those men on fire,..."
Surely, Ed, you know there was at least one woman there in the Upper Room at Pentecost.
True. But I believe she had already received the fire of the Holy Spirit way before that day.

Prayers for "Margaret" and family

I recall reading somewhere that Einstein did not speak until he was four years old.
