Our church buildings were a place people could set great art. Statues, stained glass, icons, wall paintings. Now with consolidation and churches closing and being sold, the impermanence of the future of the buildings would discourage new art. Parishes buy pieces of older parishes -- my territorial church has a baldacchino from back East. That is another example of the NYT's lament. We need a sense of stability to give art a home.

JD, I think the synod should be suspended and we should focus on praying for peace and victims right now.

I don’t think discussing diaconate for women, synodality and even blessings is appropriate at the moment. We should have been doing penance and prayers.
