Same. Never mind that the urban subway systems were created long before 1988 — my brain still didn't throw up a flag to tell me I didn't have the right century in mind.
I have been following the news about Fr Sylvester. May his soul rest in peace! Unfortunately, this is not a rare occurrence in Nigeria. The incidents do not get reported by the major media outlets.
The Vulnerable People Project is the only organization that I have heard that is doing something. They are fundraising to expand the number of Catholic Churches and schools that they are supplying with security cameras and security guards in Nigeria.
A couple of Easter’s ago our Parochial Vicar, Fr Schierer remarked “for some of us this is our last Easter.” We all kinda looked around. Three of the guys at that Mass had their last Easter and didn’t know it. Anyway, we’re all going into the ground so go to confession and live right.
Is Pope Francis expected to make a full recovery at this point? I can't really resd the tea leaves with today and yesterday's bulletin and brief report
The ongoing holocaust of Christians in Nigeria is WAAAYYY censored in lame stream media.
And it's being perpetrated by the same murderers killing Jews: jihadists. And yet, Saints (mostly Martyrs - like Father Okechukwu) are shining out of that dark place.
If you have shaken the hand of your pastor, who has shaken hands with his bishop, who has likewise with the Pope, who has shaken hands with Fr. Sylvester’s bishop, who has shaken hands with him… We are all 5 handshakes from every other Catholic on the planet.
I've done three medical trips to Guatemala, and drove through the area that was most recently destroyed by a large Fuego eruption. That volcano is always somewhat active. If you hike the volcano next to it, you usually can see lava flying up. Hopefully this event will be less destructive than 2018
I hope those in the current administration or Congress who can address the religious persecution of Christians throughout the world, and especially at this time in Nigeria, are being apprised of these events and can act to protect religious freedom and believers from these atrocities.
My parish associate pastor was friends with Fr. Slyvester. In fact, he was in Nigeria with him and had dinner a week before he got martyred. Lord have mercy.
First, may the Soul of Father Sylvester Okechukwu and all the souls of the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen.
Secondly, when I read how many religious have been murdered in Nigeria, I thought... There is a shortage of priests around the world. Rome needs to take better care of their representatives. Priests do not grow on trees. And neither do practicing Catholics...
Third, if I understand correctly, some of the murders have been at the hands of those who are members of the Islamic religion. Is this the same religion that the US College kids and their professors have embraced as peaceful and kind?
I read ‘blizzard of ‘88 and assumed 1988. Wondered why I couldn’t remember it 🤣🤣🤣

Made me tear up a bit with piece about Fr. Sylvester and think of all of us stumbling to Heaven.
Yes, such a moving reflection, and effective. I paused and prayed immediately after reading.
Thanks for remembering not all your Catholic readers are Latin.

I think they are intentionally making the tea leaves unreadable because nobody really knows what to expect!

What a lovely article for this martyr for Christ. Thank you.
