I have no idea. He did have a Jesuit priest, Fernando Cardenal, as a comrade in the revolution but he died some years ago.

Could just be the paranoia of an egotistical megalomaniac who can't stand the thought of an organization criticizing him..very sad. The people of Nicaragua need their priests.

This is what happens when people are stupid enough to have nostalgia for the cruel Sandinista and voted into the presidency Ortega which led him into taking over a dictator, reminiscent to what happened with Hitler in the 1930s. But in the 1980s the Sandinistas faced a tough Cardinal Obando Bravo who led public marches against the Sandinistas, Pope JP II who rebuked them, and Presidents Reagan and Bush Sr. who actively fought them. With the current weak Managua Cardinal Archbishop, Pope Francis, and President Biden Ortega sees he can do anything he wants without any consequences.
