"Ten years ago, Meg Hunter-Kilmer decided that God wanted her to move into her car and hit the road"

Did she decide this or discern this? It just seems really odd to decide what God wants you to do.

Meg Hunter-Kilmer has been one of my most-trusted voices in the Church for years. (The Pillar is also on that list.) She is wise beyond her years, thanks to a deep, deep dependence on the Holy Spirit, and her podcast (which is mostly scratchy recordings of the talks she gives) has had a deep impact on my spiritual life. She's a gift.

Interesting. More books for me to look for about saints. I frequently begin my homilies with (brief) stories about saints.

And it's interesting how long the shadow of Sarah (q.v. Genesis 18:12, "So Sarah laughed …") is. Meg H-K said:

"A priest friend suggested that I get more involved in public speaking and I laughed in his face. That's not exactly a concrete career path, and it was very clear to me that I wouldn't be able to support myself that way — at least not at first."

My story can be told in almost the same words:

"A priest friend suggested that I [consider becoming a permanent deacon] and I laughed in his face. That's not exactly a concrete career path, and it was very clear to me that I wouldn't be able to support myself that way — [ever]."

That priest was, of course, at my ordination, and I've heard many more such similar stories.

Be careful about laughing at God, as he will have the last laugh.
