Unfortunately, I think JD is likely to be proven correct in his prediction about an increasing polarization of opinion around the "Eucharistic Revival" project. But I don't think it will merely be as a proxy for (civil or ecclesiastical) political battles. I think there's a substantive element too. Just as Ed has pointed out in the past that there appear to be significant doctrinal disagreements among the bishops about things as basic as the concept of mortal sin, I think there are also significant disagreements about things as arguably basic as the sacrificial character of the mass, sacramental efficacy, the reverence due to the Body & Blood, or any sort of concept of eucharistic worthiness. Check out Fr. Reese's 9/8/21 column for an almost comically extreme, but (I suggest) not totally unrepresentative, viewpoint.
