Thank you for your continued work. I shared the Part 1 post with my local archdiocesan newspaper's editor and encouraged her to keep an eye out for your work. It'd be great to see some of The Pillar's pieces in print as well as online!

The main report notes a statistically significant correlation between decreased giving and Hispanic population; one of my first speculations is that parishes became significantly more dependent on online giving, and a large segment of the Hispanic population (particularly undocumented residents) would have less access to digital payment methods used by parishes. Another reason would be the speculated higher correlation between unemployment and Hispanic populations.

JD, towards the end of your Post today you get into the ways in which "pornography coarsens perception of other people’s dignity," &c.

It might be helpful to cover this more thoroughly in The Pillar with citations to the studies & research done. It's challenging to have these conversations with people who see pornography and licentiousness as "healthy expressions of natural human desires" and as means of actually providing an outlet for desires that would otherwise boil over towards sexual violence; claims of its danger is met with accusations of hearsay and/or bias; having recourse to rigorous research would help fortify the position that it's harmful.

FYI the linear regression graph of "Change in Offeratory v percent Hispanics" actually has "County Covid Deaths per Mil" on the Y axis.

Thanks for this analysis.

Thank you for this post. I'm in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. The local media can't seem to help but report this news with a salacious and prurient view; thank you for going a beyond the sex-sells headlines. Sad and dark times here. I recall specifically when Wattigny was at Visitation of Our Lady, and his removal therefrom. He was beloved by many faithful and his removal was accompanied by no small amount of gossip- which at the time might have seemed idle chatter but now seems prescient. It's tough times for the faithful in ARNO these days.
