Do you have any recommendations for resources that a lay person could use to learn more about Canon Law? I know that may be a very vague question but I have always found it hard to get my head around what it is and what it isn’t. Thanks again for all your work!

Related to the question about canon law below, I'd love to learn more about the evolution of the norms for the application of canonical sanctions. I'm not longing for the (at least mythical) past of bishops handing down excommunications like candy, but I do wonder how we got to a place where the handing down of any kind of real sanction is seen as some sort of extraordinary measure never to be used. Is it a post-Vatican II thing? Did it spring from the introduction of latae sententiae penalties in the 83 code? Is it a post-Kennedy thing?

Although I would dearly love to see Biden, et al. sanctioned by the bishops, perhaps this would open the door for the sanctioning of politicians on the other side of the aisle, on, say, “green” scandal? Francis does seem to think the climate so-called “crisis” is real.

Huzzah for humor! Ed bringing the sharp and funny. While I am somewhat more sympathetic to Ms. Markle, I do despise "my truth" about as much as I despise "lived experience," which is the equivalent of "smelled odor" or "intentional discipleship." But she gets a pass because of my abject addiction to Suits. Yes, I know, I know.

It's pretty gross to take cheap shots at a woman who was denied mental health treatment by the royal family and was flooded with racist comments by the family and British media.
