If it's cash his eminence needs, I've heard that indulgences can fetch a pretty penny?

+Muller might have grocery bags full of cash and he visits Napa Institute. He can help if not wedge his way to the top of the papabile sweepstakes.

After the entire financial scandal, do you think Cardinal Parolin will take the papal name Pope Innocent XIV?

Ooof. Another item of interesting timing - first the appointment of the Chinese bishop, them this. Presumably, it will be a particular congregation of cardinals who will have to allocate these funds for the immediate payment, even if it's not disbursed until after the conclave. I do wonder how that will inform their opinions going into the conclave.

Between this and the Chinese bishop appointment, I would imagine Cardinal Parolin's prospects for the papacy are looking more and more grim.

I am sure the Cardinals are hard pressed to find someone without any baggage, but Parolin has got two public strikes in as many days. To be a fly on the wall.

I should have gone to law school so that I would understand “to make an immediate payment of $2 million within weeks,” ie, immediate = within weeks. Miriam & Webster were heretics.

God makes good out of all. Perhaps if the Holy Spirit has not found as good as a tent as he’d like with the Vatican due to fallen human nature, the practicalities of bleeding money in scandal after scandal will as they begin their discernment of the next Pope. While a bit myopic in all the work needed for evangelization and increasingly ‘confused’ and embarrassed flock, I want our local clerics to be cared for in their retirement.

I’m no expert on discerning the will of the Holy Spirit…but He certainly seems to be saying, “Not this guy! Not this guy!”
