I find it harder and harder to believe that the papacy as it is today was of the mind of Christ. The papacy as it has become shows little resemblance to the witness of
the Holy Gospel and Sacred Tradition.
We know for the first thousand years popes did not have unchallenged imperial authority over the whole Church. Primacy of honor, "court of last resort", and first among equals, yes, but "universal, immediate jurisdiction" over the whole Church, no.
Do we need Peter? Absolutely, by divine institution, but as the papacy functions now
its time to thoroughly revamp this system.
Francis has done a good job of wrecking what was, maybe it is time to restore the Church was meant to be.
Diocesan bishops are not to be simply middle management but are meant to be true fathers and shepherds. They need to speak up when the authority they are given as Successors of the Apostles in Ordination is being tramplex.and and suppressed. Even the bishop of Rome cannot censure the whole Episcopate of the Church
