Peter's Pence should be abolished. Why would we think that the Pope (but really the curia) was the best person to distribute worldwide charitable funds? This might sound extremist, but 200 years ago, the idea that the Pope would have no lands or army was too extreme, and the Church has been much better off for the past century because they were taken away.
If the Vatican budget were reduced to a few million euros, and there were zero investments, just an expectation that the worldwide church would send a certain amount each year to cover the budget, how would that not all be better?
Pope Francis should imitate his namesake who forbid the brothers to even touch money. A new canon on the rules of being a cardinal: once a man becomes a cardinal, he cannot be involved on any level with investments or budgets. Someone else will have to do it, but not the cardinals or the pope. For them "Non est aequum" to abandon the preaching of the Gospel to serve at table!
