"She describes herself as a rationalist, rather than a person of faith"

Being a person of faith doesn't preclude also being a rationalist.

In the Byzantine East, when a man is ordained to any of the major orders the bishop puts on each vestment of the newly ordained and the people proclaim, "Axios!" (He is worthy!). It is a sign not of the newly ordained personal worth, but the willingness to accept the newly ordained, giving their assent.

Also, in the Byzantine East, when a man proves himself to be unworthy of his call, people call him "Anaxios" (He is unworthy!) This might be while the cleric is on the Ambo preaching in church, in the town market or even in complaining to the bishop.

Kyrill the Malevelent, in preaching war, the destruction of innocent life and being Putin's

"Acolyte" (as the pope called him) is "Anaxios." By being the puppet of of evil he is truly unworthy of his call and episcopate.

The bishops of the "Holy Synod" of the ROC are not any better.

When the laws of the State take precedence over the Gospel of peace something is sinfully wrong. That goes for any country.

Unfortunately, even during the time of the Godless ones (and for centuries before) the ROC has been hand in hand with the Russian government, which ever one it was).

There were many thousands of new martyrs made so by the Communists and they are rightly venerated, but their martyric witness seems to be forgotten.
