I think clergy should stop offering invocations at political gatherings unless they are willing to use the opportunity to exercise their teaching office, directed at those who are (supposedly) joining in prayer. That bishops are still being invited to give invocations at these events I take as evidence that the civil powers that be know these bishops will not challenge those in attendance. That being the case, I'm concerned that they are allowing themselves to be "useful idiots" of civil powers. That's bad for the Church.

Perhaps the cardinals ill fitting suit was a metaphor for asking a Catholic clergyman to pray at the DNC.
