It's astonishing how lightening fast the hierarchy can move on something like this while acting with plodding, glacially paced, "prayerful," deliberate and laborious discernment on things that are far worse in my opinion. It's a glaring example of the preferential option for the institution.

I sometimes wonder if some bishops think that we are still in the days of the town crier and decrees from on high for the lowly illiterate peasants. Optics aren't everything but they do matter. The laity are not stupid. The laity have brains and instant access to information.

I hope Deacon Peyton and his family know that there are Catholics who weep for them and pray for them. I hope that they feel and know Jesus' endless love and mercy.

Well written, JD. The Church itself has not taken accountability seriously. The Pillar's coverage of the lack of transparency in the handling of Vos Estis complaints is a prime example. Without credibility, evangelization is nearly impossible.
