Thank you for this interview! I first encountered Fr. Pine through the Thomistic Institute lectures and Aquinas 101, and have been following his public preaching (Pints with Aquinas, Godsplaining) ever since. He never fails to illuminate Thomistic theology in a truly grace filled way. (He is among good company- all the Dominican friars of the St. Joseph province seem to be amazing from what I can tell.) Anyway, I have his new book on Prudence, and it is excellent. In the book he discusses the interplay between prudence and the virtues of fortitude, justice, and temperance, and I think that relationship can help with discernment in regards to navigating and participating in “the culture wars” as discussed above.

"Prudence is a virtue of calibration."

That's a really good description. It's easy to see how in the culture wars, your 'mean' can drift off kilter when you try too hard to win the battle at the expense of the war. To be able to keep the big picture relevant at any given time really helps with prudence.
