So long as people think that the point of life is to enjoy it, the arguments about abortion come down to a competition between mother and child and their respective rights to pursue happiness.

If the point of life is to love, then everything that is not an act of love is a sin. The pursuit of loving is so superior to the pursuit of happiness.

Ed,

Thank you for your ongoing ministry. I am concerned by the story and link concerning Fr. Burrill.

Quid Significat? Your investigation occurred over a year ago. I believe Fr. Burrill has admitted to his behavior. Repented and assigned to parish ministry. What more do you wish from him? At any rate you may have a reason but it does not to seem to embrace the Gospel value of forgiveness. Finally, I am not sure why you publicly accused this man in the first place. I learned in Catholic grade school, if someone offends you or presents behaviors that hurt the community, approach and challenge them. I there is not a positive response, go with others to affect the change. If no change, ostracize. I really think your reporting is informative and challenging even if I do not always embrace your slant on the topics. I do think you try to be fair to the facts presented. Please do to devolve into an ecclesiastical version of Fox News. EWTN has already claimed that spot. I continue my subscription and inform others of your product in positive manner. Terrance

On August 25, 2022, Tennessee’s trigger abortion law will go into effect. It forbids abortion and makes no exception for incest, rape, child abuse nor the life of the mother. In my 30s, the mother of a small child, I had two miscarriages, resulting in a D&C to ensure I did not develop sepsis and die. I wanted more children and deeply love the one I have. Today I would very likely be told to go home and hope for a complete abortion and that I would not die from infection. There is no way to distinguish an involuntary abortion from a voluntary one.

You can say resolving an ectopic pregnancy is not an abortion. But until there is a nationwide acceptance of a new vocabulary, it is. It has become crystal clear to me that my life as a woman counts for nothing, even considering the small child and husband I would have left behind. My experience of being Of lesser importance in my church and of no importance in my state is devastating.
