All I can say is that I'm really glad the Pillar is reporting this.

Bishop Martin certainly seems to be actively burning every bridge he can.

Maybe. He seems sketchy to me but Father Hoare seems to have a decent amount of support. Just a quick google search reveals he has a podcast (which assumes he has willing and active listeners) and a facebook post announcing his reinstatement has nothing but positive comments. In fact the only criticisms there are that he was not reinstated to a parish.

Given all of the news about Bishop Martin, I can understand why Bishop Jugis didn’t comment…. Especially because it looks like he made the right calls, and the only people casting doubt on that are the people on the diocesan review board (also very confused how this board was simultaneously supportive of Fr. Hoare’s removal from office and now supports Fr. Hoare’s new assignment).

I just had my heart sink when I resd the headline bc all I could think was how is this diocese in the news *again.*. Lord have mercy 😣🙏🏽

I suppose someone will argue that Fr. Hoare is unlikely to be around young people at a retirement community, plus I am aware that as with every one of these priests, Fr Hoare has a bunch of local supporters who keep insisting he is completely innocent of everything regardless of whether the police, the Vatican etc say differently.

The problem here is first, scope creep. Bp. Martin wanted to assign this priest to a parish or campus ministry and will no doubt try to do that down the road if he isn't stopped. Second, how many credible accusations does it take to get a questionable priest removed from ministry permanently? Do we have to wait until he actually gets criminally charged with harming someone before we finally do something about it?

Any priest who ever has a credible allegation of abuse or inappropriate conduct of a sexual nature should NEVER again serve in public ministry as a priest .....priests have to be of a certain moral character & not have mental illness or personality traits or proclivities like this,,,,priests are sinners but some acts are just beyond regular sin

There's no "right" to serve as a priest & they can do many other things in their life & career...they should never serve as a Catholic priest again...no exceptions

"Credible" is the most obscure and deadly word for any priest with an allegation like this.

Every diocese defines it differently, every new bishop or review board changes that definition.

Unfortunately, the Church has experienced a leadership crisis since 2013 that rejected the importance of precision in both theology and canon law. I hope the new pope will inspire others to recogize the failures that this has wrought.
