I loved this episode so much. Please do more drafts of anything. I laughed at how bad both were at guessing the other's lists and trying to stymie each other.
I found it odd that Ed had no South American cardinals and JD had one who is going to Rome and so presumably won't be as plugged in with South American issues going forward. That is a huge part of the Church to be missing any representation from. Unless it was assumed that Pope Francis had it covered.
Cardinal Peter shout-out from North Texas! I went to a Friday Mass in Rowlett and saw him there, visiting one of his priests who is on loan to the Dallas diocese. He gave a solid homily on the guardian angels, based on the reading from Tobit.
Agree it's appalling Australia doesn't have any red hats, but there are options in Oceania.
John Cardinal Ribat MSC and Soane Patita Paini Cardinal Mafi are the clearest options. John Cardinal Dew also meets your constraints, I think, emeritus Archbishop of Wellington but only just 75.
The Archbishops of Jakarta and Dili too, at least arguably. Penang might be pushing it.
This was fun AND educational. Great episode! Ed: how come you didn't pick any Latin American cardinal :( People take for granted Catholicism in Latin America but things are changing here too and they have been for years.
Can we please get an entire episode where you figure out if it’s possible for Ed. to be elected and made pope? Maybe you can discuss how you’d reign and what your pope names would be.
Make bishop Erik Varden a cardinal and then add him to the board.

Absolutely epic podcast. Truly great Catholic conversation. Great reason to be a subscriber. I'm going with Ed's C9 by a nose.
I will succumb to tribalism and vote for JD's list
https://www.amazon.com/Carmelite-Spirituality-Cardinal-Anders-Arborelius/dp/1682781399 could be interesting for a cardinal book club if the pontiff (oh, I need to know what Ed's and JD's papal names would be) ran out of holiday parties for a certain other draft pick to organize.

The people want it.
