The Indonesian Police have some of the best counter-terrorism programs and quite a different culture when it comes to radical Islam. It truly is quite fringe in Indonesia and militant groups are nationalists fighting for independence from Indonesia who happen to be Muslim (such as the Banda Ache ones). I have heard from an old professor who was there listening to a series of meetings in Banda Ache that the ‘radical Muslim’s’ there told Afghani Mujahideen (back in the 1990s) and Al Qaeda to bugger off when they came to visit about global jihad. Isis has tried, and has been quite unsuccessful in making much of an issue in South East Asia.
The Indonesians went hard on Jeemah Islamyiah back in the early 2000s after the Bali Bombing, with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation for the lower ranking members. The Australian Federal Police were heavily involved in those initial operations as well and it was a ver successful and mutually beneficial relationship that goes on to this day.
Hi, it’s Lesly — we loved it, absolutely made our day. Highly recommend having Ed and JD deliver declarations of love to your partner within the very niche setting of a Catholic commentary podcast.
In my experience if you go through security at the Papal basilicas they do look closely at what you put through the scanner. At Saint Paul's they actually took a pocket knife and nail scissors from me which I had in a backpack. And that was Saint Paul! At a Sunday evening with almost no visitors!
The tragedy of Mr. Flynn's "special grace of forgetting" what happens on the podcast is he will learn nothing from his hypocrisy in excoriating Ed. for "messing up the copy" (which Ed. didn't actually do) & then messing up the copy himself by substituting "love" for "from." This could have been a moment of growth for J.D., but he'll never remember it.
Whenever I get cranky and critical about something someone else is doing, it's always a fair bet that I'll soon see myself doing the very same thing. (Sometimes even before I can count to ten.)
I was a bit puzzled to hear our genial hosts express some confidence in John Paul I murder theories...and the puzzlement only deepened when I followed the link to the 2021 story in the show notes, which was a decent enough review of some key points but didn't mention anything in particular that hasn't been widely known for decades.
Surely Hanlon's razor was made precisely for such Vatican bungling.
I got as far as the guys with a drone and bow and arrow and plot, and my immediate reaction is "fools; don't you know? If you strike him down, he will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" (grace builds on nature and my nature is composed 32% of pop culture movie quotes).

I am so eager to hear Lesly's and Heath's reactions to the ad reads. I would love the added banter and good wishes :)

But that's 5 words...
So the pope would certainly be a martyr. Would the Swiss Guard who steps in front of the arrow be one?
This is the sort of niche stuff I’m here to learn

sadly, no.

Sketchy guys DO indeed wear Breitlings!
