I agree with you, Ed. I will also be writing in my preferred candidate and wishing he could win although it is not possible.

Speaking of praying for Pillar people, should I take Max and Pia off my sick people list?

Clearly the next synod needs to be held on a submarine

Sometimes we are awakened in the middle of the night in order to pray. You might try doing so when you are awakened. I never get more than a decade of the rosary done before I fall asleep again.

Every now and then I wake up in the 3 o'clock hour...and even though it's AM rather than PM, I figure it's as good a time as any for a Divine Mercy chaplet.

I've heard of 3a called the Witching Hour, something about Satanists or Wiccans using it as an inverse of the 3p hour when the Crucifixion was finished. If that's all true, a Divine Mercy Chaplet sounds completely reasonable and probably eternally beneficial.

It also seems usefully appropriate to me that 3 am EDT (where I am) is 3 pm across the People's Republic of China.

I fully subscribe to Ed’s approach to voting; and if any Pillar readers or listeners haven’t checked out The Dispatch, it’s a really great place to get fact-based, non-hysterical, non-catastrophizing, thoughtful reporting from a conservative point of view.

We voted ASP for the Pres/VP here in Texas. I knew leaving the polls that my candidates were losers, but I didn't have a sour taste in my mouth.

Spe Salvi is also my favorite papal encyclical. I return to it regularly. I always knew I was in good company. :-)

If Pope Francis et al REALLY want to hear from the people in the pew (or at the altar) then...I am still flabbergasted that the Holy Father/Synod which put a HUGE emphasis on "listening to the people of God" AND which devoted so much time to the diaconate either IGNORED (as best) or REJECTED (at worst) the invited presence of deacons to the Synod! To me that would be kind of like the US Congress having an important direction-setting listening session on my state of California yet NOT inviting any Calif senators or representatives to the meetings. How can they take this seriously as a proper listening and discussing of the diaconate? Arghh!

And IMO one of the worst things that could come out of this "Synodal experience" is the restoration of a "non-ordained deaconess" ministry which would only serve to confuse the faithful even more (if that's possible) over the identity and vocation of the ordained deacon. It's been 50+ years since the restoration of the ancient diaconate in the Roman Church and we are still not at the point of our vocation being properly understood and allowed to properly exercise our ministry. Double Arghh!!

I am scandalized that Ed, the supposed anglo and anglophile, was not aware that the HENRY VIII NEVER GOT AN ANNULMENT. That's kind of the whole story.
