Ed fills JD in on the leading candidates ahead of next week’s conclave— including Cardinal Pietro Parolin. Then, they discuss questions surrounding the candidacy of Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost.
Eventually, JD got into the groove, but for a while there I could not tell if he was just really tired, hopped up on Benadryl, or maybe even a little bit tipsy. Thanks guys for all the work that you're putting in keeping us informed and get well soon JD.
The support for +Prevost is alarming. I don't know all the details as it relates to his handling of sexual abusers, but that should be a giant line in the sand for the electors. That it's not really tells me a number of these guys just don't get it. The post-election coverage would be dominated by these questions. If they want an evangelizer, his witness would be damaged before he even had his installation Mass.
It should be a line in the sand, but how many of the electors are themselves complicit in sexual abuse coverups or potential sexual scandal in some way? In retrospect, how much of the pro-Bergolio vote in the last conclave was motivated by Cardinals complicit somehow in these activities and therefore interested in maintaining the status quo? Now that we have Pope Francis' full record, which includes an extraordinary amount of complicity in sex cover ups before and after his papacy, his election seems like an "anti-reform" decision rather than a "reform" one.
I haven’t laughed as hard as I did hearing JD talk about “the documentary series ‘The Crown’” (with Ed’s rejoinders) in quite a long time. Thank you gentlemen!
(PS: Prince William has an apartment in Kensington Palace but the Wales family primarily lives in Adelaide Cottage on the grounds of Windsor Castle.)

I will never not laugh at JD baiting Ed over The Crown
What a time to be sick - I hope it really is just a cough for your sake. Feel better soon! Maybe some Sambucca would help?
Sorry, don’t know where else to ask… how much is a podcast sponsorship?
