It seems to me that although the Israelites were justified in complaining about not having water, the problem is that they DON’T complain! “Complain” in the biblical sense of one who complains TO God, in confusion but trust. Instead they GRUMBLE AT Moses, as if it’s his fault and as if God were an afterthought.

Wow, wow, wow! My jaw was on the floor when you broke down the scene of Jesus calling the woman at the well to himself.

The comment from St. Augustine about leaving her bucket behind is such a beautiful contrast to the story of Abram last week. He brings Lot and all these belongings. She doesn't leave herself an escape plan. She places everything in His control. I'm going to be reflecting on that for a long time.

If it’s true that the Samaritan woman lacked (much) agency in her husbands, one reason why she had been cast off might have been infertility.
