"Longtime readers know I have two children with trisomy-21, Down syndrome, and that I write about them often. Perhaps I write about them too much, I don’t know."

Honestly, I feel blessed to read about your family. Like the body of this section of the newsletter, you are a fantastic witness to what life is like with those have special needs. It isn't all good times nor is it constant unceasing suffering. Life is that area in between.

JD, the one prayer that I always have for my babies is that they are born healthy. I am expecting another child shortly. I don't know if the child will be: boy or girl, bald or sporting a full head of hair, healthy or suffering from a problem that will require a hospital stay or affect them for the rest of their lives. What I should be praying for is that I God gives me the the grace and strength to be the father the child needs. What you have written about your life as a father helps me have hope that I can be that kind of man. Thank you.

At the risk of being too saccharine, stories like yours NEED to be prominent within public discourse. Peek into any sort of post even tangentially related to abortion and parenthood in places like Reddit and the hate, anger, unfettered disgust toward those born with special needs seeps out. It is truly a dirtying experience. The world needs shared experiences that shows reality and not the toxic dystopian one espoused by the antinatalists.

Usually, I have something light-hearted to comment on these Pillar Posts. However, your reflection on the Discipleship of Love has put me in a contemplative mood. You've given us much to chew on, JD; and, it was beautifully said.
