Pope Francis accepted Cardinal Pierre's resignation? That's working hard! ;-)

I think this is actually a good thing. It means the US government actually cares about what the pope says, and they want to project a positive relationship. That’s a pretty undeniable acknowledgment of the power of the pope. And power is something Trump respects.

This account frankly sounds a lot more realistic than the Free Press article. Cdl Pierre doesn't strike me as the type who'd just sit there and be verbally threatened without clapping back or walking out.

Also, the other article said that the Vatican cancelled a trip after the talk and the Vatican never had a trip to the US planned in the first place.

I was told that Christopher Hale had a letter specifically from Pope Leo saying that this happened? You don't think he would over exaggerated something to push a narrative, would he?

IIRC Letters from Leo is just the name of his substack, not actually letters from the pope himself

I am very aware that Hale doesn't actually get letters from the Pope himself. I was making a comment on the intentionally misleading name of his substack and how he twists a lot of words to fit his narrative.

I’m glad that the Pillar has reported on this. I wouldn’t have put the facts around the original reporting outside the realm of possibility, but I trust the Pillar to get to some semblance of the truth.

Pope Leo nailed it in his speech to the Diplomatic Corp, and in english. The HOLY SPIRIT has great plans for him. Burch is not to be trusted. None of them at Dept of War can be trusted. Leo knows this. They are all rats on the titanic now.

When does +Caccia take over as nuncio? He was listed in the bollettino today as “Apostolic Nuncio to the US”, but it seems like +Pierre is still acting as nuncio.

Not really. This meeting being discussed actually took place Jan. 22 before Cdl Pierre stepped down.

Nothing, nothing about this story passed the sniff test. It reeked of hot garbage from the very start.

The original story just seemed like something someone who doesn’t like Trump would invent (or exaggerate if you want to be charitable). Usually these things that are too good to be true (from the teller’s perspective) are exactly that. Occasionally they do turn out to be accurate. But 9 times out of 10 not

Not that I typically take "Letters from Leo" or Hale particularly seriously, I'm glad to hear that this was bad reporting. As usual, the Pillar provides timely additional perspective. Proud to be a subscriber.
