I no longer consider myself a Roman Catholic; but the Vatican seems to want my input on the Synod on the Synodality of Synodal Synods. Very well, but I don't think they would really like my advice. I predict the Church will suffer a major schism between the German-led progressives and the African-led traditionalists.

Have they been able to define what a synod is yet? The first of the mind is definition, and they haven't even gotten that far.

Ludacris! They're talking evolution. They are playing Darwin with the Church.

I wish I could have J.D.'s optimism about the Synod on Synodality, but, well, I've read too much of "The Pillar's" clear-eyed reporting to be anything but profoundly pessimistic about the chaotic disaster about the unfold: Abortionists! Atheists! Satanists! We want your views.

This is insane. And anyone who has paid attention to religion and politics over the past 75 years knows where this is headed. A very vocal minority will hijack the synodal process and push for women deacons and/or priests, homosexual marriage, etc. And then we’ll be told about the pastoral exigencies that require changes to reflect the new “sensus fidelium,” even though the “sensus” does not come from the “fidelium.”

As someone who has fifteen aunts and uncles who were raised catholic, two of whom still practice the faith, and who was raised In the Episcopal church but converted after coming of age and realizing how bereft it was of any kind of theological coherence, this is truly frightening. It makes me feel physically ill to see the Church try to import a model that is not only counter to its own teaching and tradition, but which has destroyed the other churches in which it has been employed. Unless bishops and priests with spines stand up to this nonsense, it will destroy what’s left of the Church.

Nothing like taking the CofE, the German protestants, and Mao as our guides. This is damned nonsense. As cajunpower points out, we know where this is headed. And the vatican knows where this is headed too. If on the off chance some diocese appears normal and healthy, well that just indicated what kind of bishop and reeducation plan they need.

This is also uncatholic. The point and reference of unity is not in the pope. The pope is the visible leader of the church, but it is the tradition that is the unity of the Church. That the pope is at odds with the tradition tells us something.

This is damned nonsense. And must be fought tooth and nail. The pope is using a democratization of the church to be the most clericalist pope one could imagine- as he makes himself more important than the law and tradition.

“people of other faith traditions, [and] people of no religious belief” have an important role to help the Church “participate fully in the act of discerning.”

Translated for clarity: "Catholics will now formally submit to secularism"

Lutherans of the ELCA variety, about 15 years ago, undertook a process of "study and discernment" relating to human sexuality. The leadership had a preordained agenda to fully embrace secular perspectives, and to impose them on the national church body. A Synodical Assembly was a carefully stagecrafted affair which predictably served to rubber stamp the progressive leadership's agenda. Today, ELCA is essentially a secular NGO dedicated to LGBTQ agenda items, but while wearing clerical garb.

Sadly, it appears Catholics are again capitlating to Lutheran precedence.

I would be interested to know who-like, who exactly- comes up with the preparatory document and handbook (and so basically sets the whole program) for this synod. The parts you quote sound like the type of vapid language one might find in a corporate training video. Just modern HR speak gussied up with ecclesiastical language. Definitely sounds like something written by a committee, not by pastors. I think we are living in a time when so many people are lost and looking for a shepherd and it seems like instead of offering people the concrete hope of the good news of Christ much of the leadership of the Church instead keeps asking, “Well what do YOU think?” 😕

So, the vademecum actually contradicts Vatican II on what the Sensum Fidelium is ... man, going to have fun with that one ... this entire process is going to be at best, an exercise in navel gazing, and at worst, one giant heretical trainwreck.
