24:53 - JD bursts into the room! Begins to make me question if I've successfully participated "as fully as I am able and earnestly" during Sunday Mass.

Really enjoying the podcast and making it part of my homily prep. (Hi, Dr Powell!) But one thing: You are killing my ears! The levels are all over the place. Dr Powell is way in the distortion red zone, then the mass readings are super quiet, then JD comes in and suddenly people are talking in an old timey space capsule. I really do enjoy this show a lot, but if there’s some piece of technology we the listeners can assist you with financially to make the audio levels consistent, please let us know!

Somehow Dr Powell’s mic-clipping red-zone sound seems somehow appropriate for him? But still.

I'm sorry about your listening experience, Fr. There were a few anomalies in this episode and I'm working on smoothing them out right now. Thanks for listening, and thanks for letting me know!

In the meantime, if you have spotify, their built-in volume leveling (under Settings > Playback) is pretty decent at making everyone consistently loud, although it won't help with the clipping

It was better when I switched to listening on the Substack app. I’ll try that Spotify setting too.

We just bought more expensive new microphones and some other things. let's see what that does.

I think the difference between the two kinds of people banging on the door is that the “good” kind of banging on the door is not a demand to be let in, it is a rather pathetic recognition of need which demands mercy. The first parable is not about someone who thinks he has a “right” to go in, but someone who needs the mercy of the person inside to give him what he needs.

Took me a minute to understand why you were making that reference, but eventually I saw the faded sign on the side of the road and then I bang banged on the door.
